This road is a part of the main highway connecting Tbilisi with Kakheti and also a transit corridor connecting it with the north-western region of Azerbaijan. Tbilisi-Sagarejo road starts east of Lochin junction and ends east of Tokhliauri junction. The highway will bypass densely populated villages and towns and completely relieve traffic. As a result, a high standard of traffic safety will be ensured and travel time will be reduced.
The length of the section is 7.6 km and the construction of 17 bridges is envisaged within the project.
473 people are employed on the construction of the Vaziani-Sagarejo section, including 365 Georgian citizens.
The construction works of the project are carried out by the international joint venture company Gocay Insaat Taahhut ve Ticaret Anonim Sirketi and Maqro Construction LLC.
The project is funded by the Government of Georgia and its budget is 150 million GEL.
The construction process is supervised by the international company IRD Engineering S.r.l. The supervisory team at the site checks the conformity of the construction materials and performance of the works, conducts the necessary laboratory tests, quality control, checks the compliance of labor and safety during the course of the works, agrees on the construction work methodologies, checks the execution of the work schedules, the volumes of the works performed, studies environmental and social issues. It also prepares monthly reports and approves technical documentation (drawings, engineering reports).
