Baghdati-Abastumani road rehabilitation-reconstruction

About Project

A section of up to 36 km on the connecting road between Baghdati and Abastumani has already been completed. The complete rehabilitation-reconstruction of the road will significantly increase the level of safety, reduce the travel distance and time (by about 90-120 minutes) from the central part of Georgia to the Turkish border. The reconstruction of the road will contribute to the development of economic activity in the region and the full utilization of the tourist potential.

Baghdati-Abastumni section includes Baghdati, Nergeeti, Tskaltashua, Tsablarishkevi, Sairme and Abastumani. The length of the section is 73.3 km and the project also foresees the rehabilitation and reconstruction of 1 tunnel and 8 bridges.

With the construction of the new road, the north-south connection will be maintained so that no vehicles will pass through the resort. The renewed Baghdati-Abastumni route will connect Imereti, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara regions in the shortest way.

The implementation of the project started in 2020 and will be completed in 2024.
