The renovated Khulo-Zarzmi road will connect the regions of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara in the shortest way. The road passes through a rather difficult geological terrain and its length is 42 km. The rehabilitation of this road will contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic situation of the population of Zemo Adjara and Samtskhe-Javakheti, as well as to the development of tourism, as it connects Beshumi mountain-ski resort with Batumi and Tbilisi.
As a result of the rehabilitation-reconstruction of this motorway, road traffic safety will be significantly improved. In addition, with the updated route, the travel time from Batumi to Akhaltsikhe will be reduced by 1.5 hours. The rehabilitation section starts from Khulo township, passes through Goderdzi pass and reaches Zarzma village of Adigeni municipality. At this stage, the rehabilitation of 16 km of road has been completed.
Construction of 4 bridges is also planned within the project. Construction works started in 2021 and will be completed in 2024.
The project is funded by the Government of Georgia.
